Planning Commission Public Hearing related to Housing Element Update

For the past year and a half, the Town of Corte Madera has been working on updating its Housing Element. As part of the current update, the Town needs to plan for the construction of more than 700 new homes.
The Corte Madera Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 7:00 PM for the consideration and possible recommendation to the Town Council on amendments to the General Plan, including updates to the Housing Element and Safety Element. The Town is updating its existing Housing Element as required by state law for the 6th Cycle planning period covering 2023 – 2031. The Housing Element is required to be updated every eight years to address existing and projected housing needs for all economic segments of the Town. The Safety Element (comprised of Chapters 7 & 8 of the General Plan) is also being updated to comply with additional state legislation, which required local governments to revise their Safety Element to identify flood hazards and address the risk of fire hazards.
In January 2023, the Town Council adopted a zoning ordinance amendment to implement the rezoning of the identified ten housing opportunity sites (comprised of 18 parcels) associated with the update to the Town of Corte Madera Housing Element (6th Cycle). The Town Council also adopted amendments to the Land Use Element of the General Plan and certified the Final Subsequent Environmental Impact Report (SEIR) prepared for the project.
